About

Soundfossil is a musical project led by composer, songwriter, art-maker and giant-puppeteer Nick Wilson. It’s a live chamber-folk sextet, an overwrought bedroom project, and a vehicle for soundtrack work and creative experiments.

The lineup is bursting with reeds and reverb, featuring Bassoon, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Reed Organ, sparkly Electric Guitars and lashings of Mighty Gong.

The songs teeter between consolation and provocation – they are sardonic, cerebral, passionate and obstinate… We indulge in the fashionable despair of the age, and we make you a tea and we tell you you’re beautiful.

We like dumb loud street-parades & stretching in the sun.

We like the way the firelight bounces round your whiskey-glass.

We want to entertain you but not too much cos boredom builds character.

The Band

A Soundfossil show is a sonic indulgence and a mutual consolation: we bring homemade snacks, plumes of fragrance, and a hot and heady steam-bath energy, to console your fucked-up mind.

The Soundtracks

Nick has composed soundtracks for Snuff Puppets, The Laudanum Project (The Grand-Guignol Automaton), Think Blink Theatre (Into The Darkness), and We Are Nothing (Somnambulists).

Recent scores include the animated short film “Correa” by Lachlan Plain/Sanctum Theatre, and Snuff Puppets major new show “Swamp”, a moody soundscape of antique pump organ, guitars, woodwinds & synthesizers befitting the giant puppeteers’ bleak and moving spectacle of ecological collapse.

The Solo Demos

It began as lockdown diversions where too many overdubs fight off isolation madness through nasty headphones in an all-night mess of plugins and frankincense.

Layers of guitar, pump-organ, bozouki, ukulele, accordian, drum machine, percussion and voice are built up into maximalist arrangements that experiment with the possibilities of a song & inform later band interpretations.
